Description by Jan Mackin:

Hagerman Lake in the Northwoods of Michigan has been an honoray part of my family for sixty years and four generations.

Last summer I asked my daughter Laura to take some photographs of my favorite views.

The first photograph is the boat house .It stands alone on a small peninsula Boat houses are no longer allowed on the shoreline of this remote public lake. Its inability to be replaced makes it more treasured..

The second photograph is the side of the family cottage: This side became the main entry after years of additions and remodeling. Now the deck is collapsing and blocking all visitors. The memories of family celebrations and vacations still linger.

The third photograph is the lakefront. The view. Hundred year old pine trees screen the sun and block the wind. The visual landscape continuously changes with the seasons and the hour of the day. It is mesmerizing and humbling.

The final photograph is the hill leading up from the lake to the cottage. It is blanketed by pine needles that keep the land smooth and simple. It is the path to the lake.

Thank you Laura.
